Big Plans for the New Year

Just had a delightful chat with Ilse Sugarbaker -- my surgeon's wife and the lady in charge of the whole Sugarbaker operation -- about my upcoming date with the Sugarbakers. My pre-surgery consult is set in stone now -- January 3rd at 1pm at Washington Hospital Center (where the "pick it out/pour it in" magic will take place). We're going to discuss my CT scan results, the ins and outs of the surgery, and get a good look at each other. Ilse already said that I sound "above and beyond" the normal patient in terms of physical strength and fitness, and I look forward to proving her right when she actually sees me.

But before I meet the man (and the woman behind the man) who is going to save my life and make me a cancer-annihilating queen, I'm going to have a little New Year's fun...in New York City. Where else, right? 

I, along with my other three (plus Winston the Yorkie), will land in DC on December 30th, and will truck over to NYC on New Year's Eve. Exact plans for that night have not been made, but they will include a lot of friends and a lot of parties.  

The really, really exciting stuff happens on New Year's Day. Allow me to explain. 

On my birthday last week, I texted my best friend Rhett (who lives in NYC) to let him know that we'd likely be in the Big Apple for New Year's Eve. He called moments later with incredible news. He managed to find five, front row center tickets to Laura Linney's Broadway play, Time Stands Still -- at half price, no less. You know how I feel about Laura Linney, right? 

I had already planned to get out to NYC to see my favorite actress (tied with Meryl Streep, of course) do her thing on the stage, but I hadn't expected this stroke of luck. On the first day of 2011, I'm going to have the best possible seat to the matinee performance of Time Stands Still in one of my favorite cities in the world (tied with Los Angeles and London, of course). I can't wait.

But, I must wait, and I'd gladly wait -- because every day is a beautiful one, and every moment this WunderGlo walks the earth is worth soaking up and savoring.
