Year In Review

As the clock winds down and the end of 2010 fast approaches, I've taken time to reflect on this past year. The events of 2010 have profoundly impacted my life and have presented new avenues and experiences for me. Of these events, my cancer diagnosis obviously wins the prize of most dramatic and life-changing. But it doesn't define my year, and it doesn't define my life.

This year, I joined an incredible gym in downtown L.A., lost 30 pounds, got buff and strong, and did it all with one of my best friends in the world, Tim.

This year, I worked hard at O'Melveny, co-chairing (with Tim, who else) our annual Diversity Day, drafting briefs and memos for my mentors Mark and Carla, and throwing some seriously fun parties for the 13th floor (my floor).

This year, I became good friends with Sabrina, and renewed old friendships with Aymee, Nick, Jessica, and Anna.

This year, I played pinball with Will (and celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary and 10th year together as a couple), had spa days with my mom, and played Rock Band with dad. I celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with my entire family at my loft in downtown L.A. I went to Disneyland on my birthday, threw a Halloween party, and rang in my 29th birthday with 80 of my closest friends.

This year, Duke won the National Championship and the Lakers won it all, too.

This year, I met Coach K. And I got a hug!

And yes, this year I had an intestinal blockage in mid-September that led to a diagnosis of Stage 4 colon cancer. From the moment I learned that diagnosis, I've embraced it -- the physical and emotional challenges, the lessons on healthy living, and the sheer joy and triumph it will be when I utterly annihilate cancer.

Thank you, 2010. For everything.

And 2011? I can't wait to meet you. You're going to be the best year of my life.
